A London Country Diary (Paperback)
Mundane Happenings from the Secret Streets of the Capital (with foreword by Stewart Lee)
For fifteen years I meandered round the quiet streets near my North London home - walking slowly with kids by my side, or in prams or on my shoulders. I was in love with the ordinary, the beautiful mundane. I started sending my friends a newsletter about it all, then it became a blog - An Urban Country Diary. In 2014 A London Country Diary was published by Icon Books. It’s a collection of sketches, doodles and diary/journal observations that I started back in 1999 around the time my daughter was born. Much of the ‘action’ (ha ha) takes place in and around Clissold Park in the Stoke Newington/Green Lanes/Highbury border country. If you wonder about stuff like how to de-salute magpies, what’s the best kind of tree, how to break up a fight or rescue a deer and where the Clash recorded London Calling, this might be for you. Plus there's a brilliant and very funny foreword by Stewart Lee.
All of life is in these pages. Well, some. OK, just a little bit. But I hope this book will remind you that you can find beauty, humour and life, wherever you call home.
